The new Mary Alice and Tom O’Malley Library, opened in 2002, was an idea whose time had come. In order to house its ever-increasing volumes of print texts and to integrate the technological advances necessary for a contemporary library, this engineering and architectural marvel was constructed and annexed to the hallowed Hayes Library, making for an accommodating partnership of the traditional and the modern.
Now in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the O’Malley Library houses an impressive book collection of over 260,000 volumes, over 100 networked computer workstations, fully-wired study carrels, and comfortable seating in an inviting environment. An Internet Café caters to students’ extended-hour study habits. The building is also home to a new and welcoming admissions office and the College Archives where Manhattan’s impressive history is preserved.
