Communications Students to present papers at regional conference

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Two Manhattan College communications students have had their papers accepted for poster presentation at the Eastern Communication Association Conference in Baltimore, MD, which will be held April 22-25, 2010.

The students Melissa Bekisz, who wrote "Enchantment of the Law," and Melissa Scarlino, who wrote "Gender Role Representations: A Child's Point of View," are both seniors. They completed their papers last fall as part of Senior Seminar, taught by Dr. Rebecca Kern, assistant professor of communication.

The Eastern Communication Association Conference expects between 1,000 and 2,000 attendees. According to the conference’s website, “The Eastern Communication Association was initially established in 1910 and continues as the oldest professional communication association in the United States. As a distinguished service-oriented organization with a history of achievement in research, criticism, communication theory, and excellence in teaching, the association welcomes members who share the goals and objectives of a membership dedicated to participation in state, regional, and national activity.”

Manhattan College’s communication department provides three areas of concentration: broadcasting/telecommunications, journalism, and corporate communication (which includes advertising and public relations).
